Highland Park has become L.A.'s newest hipster location, trying its best to catch up with places like Silver Lake and Echo Park(and easily already out-hipping Eagle Rock). Things first started looking up on York around 2005-10, starting at Ave 50 and now going down to Ave 52--Figueroa, from Ave 56 to Ave 59 has come on strong since. Their are competing Yoga Studios, "Namaste" on York and "Kinship" on Fig. There are now two vinyl record shops in Highland Park-- one, "Gimme Gimme Records", actually relocated from New York's East Village to Figueroa!
There are a number of trendy cafes and stylish restaraunts on York and Figueroa. Some photos are on the bottom of the page. The latest hot spot is an amazing restoration of the old Highland Park Bowling Alley--it must been seen to be believed. |
A few blocks away on Figueroa is a Vegan restaurant called the Kichen Mouse. It attracts the hip people from as far away as Venice and Santa Monica. It is so cool (for Highland Park), it doesn't serve dinner, only breakfast and lunch! |
